Colorado football has been a staple in the headlines from the moment Deion Sanders took over as the head coach in Boulder.
For better or worse, that’s likely to be the case for the entirety of his tenure there. Unfortunately, through two games in the 2024 season, Sanders’ team has been the focus of scrutiny.
Whether for fights breaking out among coaches, rumors circling the program, or players being called out after losses, it’s been more drama than the Buffs want.
After a 28-10 loss to Nebraska last week, the negative press is getting even louder. In fact, it’s getting so raucous that even Colin Cowherd felt it necessary to give Deion Sanders yet another nickname — as if Neon Deion, Prime Time, and Coach Prime weren’t enough.
Cowherd’s new moniker for Coach Sanders? The Fake ID of College Football.
The nickname, which Cowherd originally reserved for the Iowa Hawkeyes, went to the biggest “poser” in college football, which The Herd’s host says now resides in Boulder.
“It’s time for a new fake ID of college football. Somebody who is talking a big game, a little thirsty, but not of legal age — kind of a poser,” Cowherd said. “I think it’s Colorado. Deion Sanders is the new fake ID of college football.”
After escaping an upset bid against a tough North Dakota State team in Week 1, Colorado was blasted by Matt Rhule’s Cornhuskers in Lincoln, trailing 28-0 at halftime.
“At least Iowa could hold their liquor,” Cowherd continued. “These guys are vomiting over themselves after a margarita. They’ve lost seven straight games to FBS teams, and have the worst-run offense in America. Can’t defend the run, can’t play play defense, tackle poorly.”
Colorado has a chance to get back in the win column this week with a road tilt against their bitter in-state rivals, the Colorado State Rams. The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, with Colorado being favored by around seven points.
