Is Colorado Football Worse Than Last Year?

Following a brutal Week 2 loss to former Big 12 foe Nebraska, many opinions have been running wild about Colorado football in its first year back in the Big 12.

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum was the latest name to speak out against the Buffaloes and asked the question of whether or not Colorado had even improved from last year.

“He’s getting sacked. It’s the same story,” Paul Finebaum said on First Take. “I think the bigger story, rather than coming down on Shedeur, is his father. What kind of program is Deion Sanders running at Colorado? He promised all the changes this year. He got mad at anyone who dared to criticize, and it was the same team. They’re not even as good as they were a year ago.”

While Deion Sanders has seen a lot of backlash sent in his direction since taking over as the Buffaloes head coach in 2023, the bulk of the issues stem from his inability to build an offensive line. Sanders has attacked the transfer portal harder than anyone in the nation, but in 2024, the issues are the exact same ones the team dealt with last fall.

“Poor Shedeur is getting killed,” Finebaum continued. “You can’t get sacked that many times. He won’t make it to mid-season, let alone at the end. That score was so deceiving. I watched that game, as I know you guys did, and they were destroyed in the first half. That game was over. It was 28-0, and Colorado made it not even respectable, but they just didn’t make it as bad as it really was. Every game now is going to be a battle for them, and I just sense that Deion Sanders and this whole thing is going to come apart at some point without Shedeur, without Travis [Hunter], he’s gonna bail out.”

Finebaum finished his thoughts by saying, “I cannot imagine as much as you guys love Deion Sanders that he’s going to be able to put up with his humiliation, week after week, and I bet he’s already looking for a way out.”

Colorado takes on their in-state rivals, Colorado State, in Week 3 on Saturday, September 14th at 6:30 p.m. CT.
