While it’s no secret that the Week One matchup between West Virginia and Penn State will be one of the biggest games of the opening weekend, one member of the West Virginia Football team is taking things to a whole new level.
On Monday, West Virginia defensive lineman Edward Vesterinen spoke to the media and mentioned that the Mountaineers have been thinking about Penn State scoring with six seconds left in the previous matchup all offseason.
“Of course, that upset us,” Vesterinen said. “This past week on the TVs before our meetings and everything, that’s the only clip we’ve been replaying. I’ve seen that clip about 100 times in the past week. It just angers me.”
In 2023, the score at the six-second mark gave the Nittany Lions an 18-point lead, which helped James Franklin‘s group cover the 14-point spread. The action made waves across many in the world of college sports, with some calling our Penn State for poor sportsmanship.
Vesterinen finished his thoughts by saying, “I even know the celebration they got, one O-lineman did. I took it very personal and I hope everybody on our team took it very personal.”
Heading into the 2024 season, the Mountaineers host Penn State in Morgantown to kick off the Week One slate. The spread is much closer than in 2023, with the Nittany Lions favored by 8.5 points.
