Following a dominant Week One performance in the Colorado Buffaloes 31-26 win over North Dakota State, various takes have been flying out regarding star two-way player Travis Hunter.

On Thursday, safety for the Philidelphia Eagles, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, called out Robert Griffin III for a take about Hunter’s role in the NFL.

“Travis Hunter keeps showing that he can and he SHOULD play both wide receiver and cornerback in the NFL FULL TIME,” Griffin said. “Man had seven catches for 132 yards and three touchdowns at wide receiver AND played 43 snaps on defense, making tackles and locking down his side of the field. He is a UNICORN.”

Gardner-Johnson then responded with a tweet of his own that read, “I respect your perspective! But bro, we grown men here!!! Ain’t nobody going both ways and cooking grown men. NFL a different game RGIII! I love the young guy, great player, but NFL is a monster!!”

During his time at Colorado, Hunter solidified himself as one of the top prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft class, reminding folks again of that statement on Thursday night. The Georgia native exploded for seven catches,132 yards, and three touchdowns while being the best defensive player in the Buffs’ secondary.

Despite his dominant numbers in Week One, Gardner-Johnson isn’t the only one who believes Hunter should stick to focusing on one side of the ball.

“His talent is readily apparent, but he is hard to rank because he has two standout positions,” ESPN’s Matt Miller said. “Scouts I’ve spoken to prefer him at receiver, where Hunter’s speed and electric ability with the ball in his hands are best utilized, whereas, at cornerback, he would need to focus on technique more and rely less on winning with speed.”

Still, players like Hunter have had success operating on both sides of the ball at the NFL level in the past, notably including his current head coach, Deion Sanders. With Hunter possessing massive upside, his future suitor is likely to get the ball in his hands in any way possible.
