While social media trolls have gotten harder and harder to spot in recent years, on Thursday, the trolls caught Colorado head coach Deion Sanders slipping.

With a fake injury report circling regarding the health of Utah quarterback Cam Rising, Sanders took to social media to send some prayers in the direction of the veteran signal-caller.

The fake report came from a user on X who circled a story about the finger injury suffered by the seventh-year quarterback.

“BREAKING: Per Sources close to Utah Football, the laceration on the hand of Utes’ QB Cam Rising has grown infected and is showing signs of Tetanus,” the report stated. “He is expected to be out for up to 6-8 weeks. Utah Athletics is preparing a medical redshirt waiver for an 8th season just in case.”

While in reality, Rising is expected to miss just one game against in-state rival Utah State in Week 3 and be ready to go vs. Oklahoma State in Week 4, the convincing report was good enough to fool Sanders into responding.

“I was really bothered by thinking this kid was hurt again,” Sanders said. “God bless the trolls. They’re pretty good at what they do. Still, God bless this young man & I do think he’s awesome for what he’s endured.”

Despite Sanders leaving some negative headlines in the past for the press to pick apart, his response to the fake injury report came through as pretty genuine.

Sanders will have the opportunity to clash with Rising and the Utes in one of their last few games of the 2024 season. The two programs face off in Boulder on November 16th.
