Utah starting quarterback Cam Rising is “unlikely” to play in Saturday’s game against the Utah State Aggies, per the Action Network.
Rising hurt his hand last week after he has tackled into a hydration station by a pair of Baylor defenders near the end of the first half.
He injured a finger on his throwing hand and was taken to the locker room for further examination before halftime. He returned in street clothes with the finger bandaged up as true freshman Isaac Wilson finished out the game.
Wilson would be the likely starter if Rising is unable to play.
This is the Utes’ (2-0) last non-conference game before opening their first season of Big 12 Conference action when they head to Oklahoma State next Saturday. The report indicated that Rising is expected to play in that game.
Utah has not posted a formal status on Rising for Saturday.
Before Rising was darned near perfect for the Utes. He was 8-for-14 for 92 yards and two touchdown passes.
Combined with his numbers from Utah’s season-opening win over Southern Utah, he’s thrown for 346 yards and seven touchdowns.
Injuries are something Rising has dealt with throughout his career, which is part of the reason he’s in his seventh year of college football. He missed all of last season due to an injury.
Before that, he had two great seasons for the Utes, including 3,034 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2022.
Wilson, the younger brother of BYU product and NFL quarterback Zach Wilson, threw for 74 yards and rushed for another 21 yards in mop-up duty against SUU. He followed that with 30 yards passing against Baylor, as the Utes chose to stick to the ground game.
He was a two-time all-state selection in Utah.
