One of the most heated rivalry games of the 2024 college football season took place on Saturday between the Colorado Buffaloes and the Colorado State Rams.

Both teams talked immense amounts of trash heading into the matchup, which sometimes carried onto the field.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders spoke on the intensity between the two programs and highlighted the unnecessary disrespect his team received from their in-state rivals.

“First of all, thank you all for being here,” Sanders said. “Wonderful game, personal game, heartfelt game, emotional game. They kind of make it like that. We just want to play some football. The disrespect was uncalled for throughout the week. A couple of their players took shots at the whole program and few of our players. So it is what it is, so we knew that coming into the game, it was going to be a bit personal, and it was.”

The week kicked off with Colorado State quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi calling out the Buffaloes for their relevance, saying, “I think it goes to show the hype, the media train, it only gets so far. At the end of the day, you have to line up 11 guys against our 11 guys, and we’ll find out who wants it more. We’ll see how far Instagram followers get them.”

After throwing for just 209 yards and two interceptions, it appears Nicolosi did not want it more than Shedeur Sanders, who shined with 310 yards and four scores.

“I think one of our coaches, Coach Phillips, during warm-ups, one of their guys ran into him and elbowed him, which is uncalled for,” Sanders continued. “I just pray that our kids never act in that manner because I know you guys would have a field day if they did. But I know you won’t say anything or do anything when the opposing team does that versus us, make derogatory comments during the week about our program.”

Sanders finished his thoughts by saying, “Thank you all, I appreciate you. But I just want you to have the same passion when you see foolish things that you have when you see things on our behalf. I’m not asking you to jump on anybody because I don’t condone that as well. But I like balance, balance in any part of life is wonderful. God bless y’all, y’all get home safe.”

Colorado takes the field in Week 4 on Saturday, September 21st, at home vs. Baylor.
