With Week 3 of the college football season officially in the books, the Big 12 Conference announced four players that would be taking home the third iteration of the Big 12 Football Weekly Awards for the 2024 season.

UCF’s RJ Harvey took home the title for Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, Colorado’s Travis Hunter earned DPOW honors, Kansas State’s Dylan Edwards was named Special Teams Player of the Week, and West Virginia’s T.J. Jackson took home Newcomer of the Week.

RJ Harvey’s role in UCF’s 35-34 comeback win over TCU cannot be overstated, as the senior running back posted 29 carries for 180 yards and two scores. His performance was the fifth consecutive game, breaking the century mark in rushing yards dating back to last season. He also added a third score of the day on a 29-yard catch and run to help earn Offensive Player of the Week honors. His 180 rushing yards were the third most in college football for the week.

Colorado defensive back Travis Hunter has quickly emerged as one of the nation’s best athletes, succeeding on both sides of the football. Hunter helped limit Colorado State to just nine points during the heated matchup and played in 123 of the teams’ 138 total snaps. Hunter recorded five tackles, one pass breakup, and one interception that he returned for 38 yards in the 28-9 victory.

While the scoreboard result may not have been the outcome fans were hoping for in the Backyard Brawl, one player who made an incredible effort was senior defensive lineman T.J. Jackson. The Alabama native posted six stops, for tackles for loss, and one-and-a-half sacks in Saturday’s matchup. His four tackles for a loss tied for the fourth most in WVU history and the most by a Mountaineer since the 2018 season, and now leads the Big 12 Conference in tackles for loss.

One of the biggest special teams performances of the week took place on Friday night in Manhattan, Kansas, with sophomore running back Dylan Edwards making a massive play in the 31-7 win. Edwards returned a punt 71 yards for the score to put the Wildcats up 14-7 on the first play of the second quarter, which helped swing the momentum in favor of the 14th-ranked Wildcats. His career-long punt return also marked the third consecutive game K-State scored a touchdown on defense or special teams, giving Edwards his fourth all-purpose touchdown this season.
