In a recent list from 247Sports’ Clint Brewster, five names from the Big 12 Conference were listed among college football’s top 20 quarterbacks.
Following some key performances from athletes across the Big 12, some new names made their top 20 debut, and some old names continued to climb even higher.
Five members of the league earned placements on Brewster’s list following Week 3, including Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Kansas State’s Avery Johnson, TCU’s Josh Hoover, Oklahoma State’s Alan Bowman, and Texas Tech’s Behren Morton.
While names like Cam Rising and Rocco Becht were notably left off the list, Brewster clarified the situation by mentioning that injured players (Rising) and those on bye weeks (Becht) are not included on the list.
The highest-ranking member of the Big 12 Conference to earn a spot among the top 20 was Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, who checked in at No. 6. Following Sanders on the list was K-State’s Avery Johnson at No. 8, Josh Hoover at No. 11, Alan Bowman at No. 14, and Behren Morton rounding out the list at No. 20.
The five players listed combined for some massive stat lines in Week 3, with four of the five quarterbacks claiming a win. Johnson and Bowman both enter conference play unscathed with 3-0 records, while Sanders, Hoover, and Morton all boast 2-1 records.
In total, the five signal callers posted 1,537 passing yards in Week 5 and an overall touchdown to interception ratio of 19-1. They also accounted for 116 rushing yards largely in part due to Johnson’s 110.
With more incredible matchups on the horizon for Week 4, the list could very well end up holding even more Big 12 quarterbacks in the near future.
