One of the most interesting finishes of the Week 2 slate went to the matchup between the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Pittsburgh Panthers.
After jumping out to a significant lead, the Bearcats gave the game away, with Pittsburgh rallying back 21 points to win the game 28-27.
The game’s dramatic finish bled into the post-game celebration with some heated interactions between members of both teams.
With members of Pittsburgh’s football team sprinting to the sidelines to taunt fans, an interesting argument broke out between Pittsburgh DB Javon McIntyre, a member of the Bearcats, and an equipment staff member over a game ball.
Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette spoke to Pitt kicker Ben Sauls after the game about the interaction which Sauls discussed, saying they felt like “dishing back a lot of ‘things said’ by the Cincinnati student section throughout the game.”
The interaction involved a lot of pushing, shoving, and yelling, which can be seen in the video.
Despite the loss, Cincinnati posted some decent stats in the matchup. The Bearcats won the time of possesion battle, third down efficiancy, total plays, and more. Sophomore quarterback Brendan Sorsby light up the stat sheet again in Week 2, throwing for 298 yards and three scores. Cincinnati running back Corey Kiner averaged 7.5 yards per carry with 149 yards on the day, but ultimately, it wasn’t enough to hold off Pittsburgh.
Cincinnati takes on Miami Ohio in Week 3 on Saturday, September 14th, at 11:00 a.m. CT.
