Texas Tech Red Raiders Basketball: 2019-20 Schedule Analysis
Leading up to Big 12 media days in Kansas City Heartland College Sports will analyze each of the Big 12 men’s basketball schedules. Today it’s the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Season opener: Texas Tech starts the season at home against Eastern Illinois on Nov. 5.
Tournaments: Tech’s main tournament appearance is at the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational where the Red Raiders face Iowa and either San Diego State or Creighton. Tech also heads back to New York City for the Jimmy V Classic, where it will face Louisville at Madison Square Garden.
The Big 12/Big East Game: Texas Tech drew a road trip to Chicago to face DePaul on Dec. 4.
The Big 12/SEC Game: Oh, just a home game with Kentucky on Jan. 25. That’s all.
The Big Non-Con: There is nothing quite like the Duke game of a year ago. But Iowa, DePaul and Louisville all present challenges the first six weeks of the season.
Mid-Major Danger: The CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners went 18-16 last year and went to the third round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.
Big 12 Opener: Texas Tech hosts Oklahoma State on Jan. 4.
The ‘Big’ Big 12 stretch: Texas Tech could be fighting for a No. 1 Big 12 Tournament seed when the final six games come around, all against NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago — road games with Iowa State, Oklahoma and Baylor and home games with Kansas State, Texas and Kansas. The Kansas game ends the Big 12 slate on March 7.
