Texas Longhorns Basketball: 2019-20 Schedule Analysis
Leading up to Big 12 media days in Kansas City Heartland College Sports will analyze each of the Big 12 men’s basketball schedules. Today it’s the Texas Longhorns.
Season opener: Texas will host Northern Colorado on Nov. 5.
Tournaments: Texas has one tournament this year, with a trip to New York City to play in the 2K Empire Classic. The opener is with Georgetown and, depending on the other game, Texas could end up playing Duke or Cal.
The Big 12/Big East Game: Texas already had a scheduled game with Providence before the announced Big 12-Big East Challenge last year. The Longhorns head to Providence on Dec. 21.
The Big 12/SEC Game: Texas hosts LSU in Austin on Jan. 25.
The Big Non-Con: There is no guarantee the Longhorns will get Duke. The renewal of the rivalry with Texas A&M is a must-see. The bonus is the game is in Fort Worth at the new Dickies Arena.
Mid-Major Danger: UAB is always a challenging team, whether they have a ton of talent or not. UAB was 20-15 last year, reached the third round of the Conference USA tournament and then went to postseason action in the College Basketball Invitational.
Big 12 Opener: Texas heads to Baylor to face the Bears on Jan. 4.
The ‘Big’ Big 12 stretch: Texas gets a five-game gauntlet to start February, but at least three games are at home. The Longhorns host Iowa State, Texas Tech and Baylor, and travel to Kansas and Iowa State in a 15-day stretch.
