Cincinnati Lands Commitment From Five-Star Recruit Dee Alexander
The Cincinnati Bearcats women’s basketball team picked up a huge commitment on Wednesday from Class of 2025 five-star recruit Dee Alexander.
The 6-foot-1 wing is a consensus five-star player goes to Purcell Marian in Cincinnati and announced her commitment live on WLWT.com.
The commitment is non-binding. The earliest that Alexander can sign with the Bearcats is during November’s early signing period.
But getting Alexander to commit to the Bearcats is a huge get for coach Katrina Merriweather, who is entering her second season at the helm of her alma mater.
Wallace told WLWT that she has one goal by remaining in Cincinnati.
“I want to change Cincinnati,” she said.
According to ESPNW, she is the third top 100 recruit to commit to Cincinnati since 2008. She had the Bearcats, along with Ohio State and Illinois, in her top three schools.
Alexander led Purcell Marian to its third straight state title and its second straight Division II title last month. She already a two-time Ohio Ms. Basketball.
Keeping her at home has the potential to change the program at Cincinnati, even if she won’t play for the Bearcats until November of 2025. By landing this commitment, Merriweather can use Alexander’s commit as a way to leverage better recruits and transfers.
Cincinnati is coming off a 14-18 season, its first in the Big 12 Conference. While the Bearcats finished under-.500, those 14 wins were their most wins in a season since 2019-20.
Cincinnati was one four schools that joined the Big 12 last summer, along with BYU, UCF and Houston. Four more schools will join the Big 12 this summer — Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah.
Oklahoma and Texas leave the Big 12 this summer to join the SEC.
