Houston Basketball Adds BIG NAME in the Class of 2025

NCAA Basketball: Houston at Texas

On Thursday, Kelvin Sampson and the Houston Cougars added a huge name in the Class of 2025, five-star guard Isiah Harwell.

Harwell, a 6-foot-6 guard from Wasatch Academy, chose the Cougars over a cutdown list featuring Texas, California, and Gonzaga.

Coming out of Wasatch Academy in the Class of 2025, Harwell is listed as a five-star prospect by theĀ 247Sports indexĀ and the nationā€™s 10th-ranked player. He also checks in as the top-ranked player at his position and the second-ranked player in the state of Utah.

“I chose Houston because the culture fit,” Harwell told On3’s Joe Tipton. “I feel like I can thrive and succeed there, and I believe in Coach Sampson and the whole staff. Coach Sampson has a way with speaking that just makes me motivated and ready to play. He also has a lot of experience and knows what heā€™s looking for.”

With his commitment, Harwell became the first player to commit to Houston in the 2025 cycle. His decision boosted the Cougars’ 2025 class into the nation’s 15th-ranked spot.

247Sports’ Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein spoke on Harwell prior to his commitment, saying, “While we havenā€™t seen Harwell in a competitive environment for almost a year now, he was one of the first players to distinguish himself in the national class of 2025 and looked to be on the verge of another jump last fall before suffering the injury. At 6-foot-6, Harwell has good backcourt size, strength, and physicality. Heā€™s a true two-way player who impacts the game on both ends of the floor. He plays hard, competes, and is versatile enough to play as a big secondary guard or a more conventional wing.”
