On Monday, Baylor head coach Dave Aranda provided a major update for Bears fans ahead of the 2024 season.
According to a report from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Baylor is expected to name Toledo transfer Dequan Finn the starting quarterback in Waco.
Following Saturday’s practice, Aranda spoke about the battle between Finn and redshirt junior Sawyer Robertson, saying, “Today was a good day. I thought both played well, but a decision is due, and so [OC Jake Spavital] and I and the rest of the offense will get together and get that done.”
With the decision to roll with the senior transfer Finn under center, Baylor fans now know which jersey to sport on Saturdays.
Finn, a 6-foot-2 senior from Michigan, posted some impressive stats in 2023 with the Rockets throwing for 2,657 yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 22-9. He also ran for 563 yards and seven scores. In addition to his solid stats at Toledo, the Michigan native led his team to an 11-2 record in the regular season before losing to Wyoming in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl.
Finn and the Bears will have an uphill battle in the fall, attempting to get Baylor back on the track toward success. In the past two seasons, the Bears hold an overall record of 9-16. With Finn under center, hopefully, the team can turn over a new leaf.
Baylor kicks off the 2024 season on Saturday, August 31st vs. Tarleton State.
