Following a massive Week 3 win over the 20th-ranked Arizona Wildcats, Chris Klieman and the Kansas State Wildcats saw a noticeable boost to their odds of making the College Football Playoff.
The 31-7 win over their Wildcat counterpart saw sophomore quarterback Avery Johnson put on a show, leading Kansas State to a 3-0 record in the non-conference schedule.
According to the Orlando Sentinel and Tribune’s Matt Murschel, Kansas State now holds a sizeable lead in the CFP odds department with a 43.4% chance of reaching the 12-team playoff.
In the matchup vs. Arizona, the 14th-ranked Wildcats outclassed Brent Brennan’s squad on all three phases. The Wildcats’ offense posted 391 yards of total offense, 235 of which came in the rushing attack. Avery Johnson had his best rushing performance of his 2024 season, totaling 17 carries for 110 yards. The running back tandem of DJ Giddens and Dylan Edwards also found some success rushing the ball, with the pair accounting for 122 yards and a score on 23 carries.
Perhaps the biggest play of the night came on special teams with a massive return from Edwards. The Colorado transfer fielded a punt on his end of the field and took it 71 yards to the house to give Kansas State a 14-7 lead.
After the win over Arizona, the Wildcats are strongly considered the favorites to win each of their nine remaining games.
