With Week 2 of the college football season officially in the books, the Big 12 Conference announced four players that would be taking home the second iteration of the Big 12 Football Weekly Awards for the 2024 season.
Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo took home the Offensive Player of the Week title, Oklahoma State’s Nick Martin claimed Defensive Player of the Week honors, fellow OSU Cowboy Obi Ezeigbo was named Newcomer of the Week, and Iowa State’s Kyle Konrardy won Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
To say that Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo was sensational against Mississippi State in Week 2 may actually be putting it lightly. Skattebo was untouchable against the Bulldogs, leading his team to a 30-23 win. In the game, the senior running back posted 33 carries for 262 yards while averaging 7.9 yards per carry. His dominant outing helped position himself with the third-most rushing yards of anyone in the country.
With veteran edge rusher Collin Oliver exiting the Cowboys’ Week 2 matchup with what appears to be a season-ending injury, Oklahoma State’s leading tackler from one year ago stepped up in a big way on Saturday. Nick Martin recorded 16 total tackles in the win over Arkansas, which put him sixth in the nation with 26 total tackles. He currently checks in as the Cowboys’ second-leading tackler behind safety Trey Rucker, who leads the nation with 32 total stops.
Another Cowboys playmaker called on to step up with senior defensive end Obi Ezeigbo who filled in adequately for Collin Oliver. The New Jersey native recorded nine total tackles and two sacks after recording just one tackle the previous week vs. South Dakota State. After starting his career with the Gannon Golden Knights, Ezeigbo entered the transfer portal in December and decided to head to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to play for Mike Gundy.
In one of the biggest performances of the week, Iowa State freshman kicker Kyle Konrardy became a hero in the 2024 Cy-Hawk game. After a sloppy start to the game, the Cyclones got within Konrardy’s range for a game-winning kick attempt, which the Iowa native drilled right down the middle from 54 yards out. Konrardy recorded a total of eight kicking points on the day, converting two field goals and two extra points in the Cyclones 20-19 win over their in-state rivals.
