Week 2 of the college football season wrapped up and there were eight of the 16 Big 12 teams who were home this past week. And when it comes to attendance, Big 12 fans are as passionate as any.
So after Week 2, how do the Big 12 home teams rank based on overall attendance, while we also put the percent based on overall capacity in parenthesis.
Big 12 Football Week 2 Home Game Attendance Rankings (Percent Full in Parenthesis)
- Utah vs. Baylor: 52,827 (100%)
- Oklahoma State vs. Arkansas: 52,202 (97%)
- West Virginia vs. UAlbany: 50,073 (83%)
- Arizona vs. Northern Arizona: 47,746 (94%)
- Arizona State vs. Mississippi State: 45,504 (85%)
- TCU vs. Long Island: 44,063 (96%)
- UCF vs. Sam Houston: 43,807 (91%)
- Cincinnati vs. Pittsburgh: 37,992 (92%)
So the Utah vs. Baylor game, which was technically a non-conference match up, but a game between two Big 12 teams, had the best overall attendance and was the only Big 12 game to hit 100% capacity (of the home games).
All Big 12 games hit at least 83% capacity. With the games below 90% including West Virginia vs. UAlbany, which was an FCS opponent, and the Arizona State vs. Mississippi State game. Kenny Dillingham challenged his fan base all week to show up for this Big 12 vs. SEC showdown, which they did, but the reality is the program is in a rebuilding phase and the fans won’t flood back after one or two good games. However, if Dillingham keeps this up, I fully expect the Sun Devils to be selling out sooner rather than later.
In Week 1, in a 48-7 win over Wyoming, Arizona State had the second-largest student attendance since 2010 at 13,698, the university said. The mark was less than 400 shy of the record set in 2013 when the Sun Devils hosted UCLA.
Arizona State welcomed 10,478 students to the Mississippi State game, the first time there have been back-to-back games with 10,000+ students. It marks the best two-game start in student attendance.
