Arizona State is coming off one of the most impressive Week 1 wins in the Big 12, and head coach Kenny Dillingham is doing everything in his power to keep the momentum going.
In Saturday’s 48-7 win over Wyoming, Arizona State had the second-largest student attendance since 2010 at 13,698, the university said. The mark was less than 400 shy of the record set in 2013 when the Sun Devils hosted UCLA.
Well with Arizona State set to host Mississippi State in a Big 12 vs. SEC match up this weekend, head coach Kenny Dillingham is challenging his students, saying, “We’re going to break the student attendance record this week.”
“We’ve never won an SEC game in Arizona State history,” the head coach said. “So we need a sold out crowd with the biggest student section that there’s ever been. We need it loud for four quarters all night long next Saturday.”
Back to last Saturday, the players were raving about the fans in Tempe as they opened the season against the Cowboys.
“The crowd showed out. I don’t think they realize how much of an impact they have,” linebacker Keyshaun Elliott said after the Wyoming game.
“It was pretty dope. I didn’t think it would be that loud running out,” quarterback Sam Leavitt said. “Hopefully more people start showing up and we get this thing really rocking.”
The ASU athletic department was prepared for the opener with an enhanced game day experience that included half-price parking and water.
Overall attendance was announced at 48,108 for the game. Stadium capacity for Mountain America Stadium is 53,599.
Arizona State vs. Wyoming kicks off at 9:30 p.m. CST.
