Ahead of their Week 1 matchup, Penn State head coach James Franklin complimented Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Franklin referred to West Virginia as the “most undervalued team in the country ” and discussed what it would take to get the job done.
“First of all, we’ve got a ton of respect for West Virginia,” Franklin said. “You can make the argument that they are maybe the most undervalued team in the country in the way their season ended last year.”
Coming off of a successful 2023 campaign that was capped off with a win over North Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, West Virginia slipped through the cracks in the eyes of national media. Heading into Week 1 of the 2024 season, however, the narrative surrounding the program appears to be changing.
The Mountaineers have a shot to kick things off in a massive way on Saturday, pulling off a key upset over the nation’s eighth-ranked team. Neal Brown’s squad features some dynamic athletes on offense and veteran leaders on defense, all surrounded by one of the loudest fanbases in America.
Franklin finished his thoughts by outlining Penn State’s gameplan, saying, “We’ve just gotta come out and do what we did all training camp. I think the coordinators have done a phenomenal job. The players have done a phenomenal job. We’ve got to come out and play well, which is gonna be in a very, very hostile environment.”
Saturday’s matchup between West Virginia and Penn State kicks off at 11:00 a.m. CT on FOX.
