Jalon Daniels Picking Up the Slack With Hishaw Sidelined with Illness

NCAA Football: Illinois at Kansas

Kansas is without one of its top rushing weapons in a pivotal Week 3 matchup against the UNLV Rebels (2-0). Daniel Hishaw, a redshirt junior who serves as one of KU’s primary ball carriers, is unavailable for tonight’s matchup due to illness.

Through two games, Hishaw ranks second on the team with 16 carries, 105 yards, and one touchdown.

With Hishaw out, the Jayhawks are forced to lean on Devin Neal and the rushing ability of its quarterback, Jalon Daniels.

Through the first two quarters of Friday night’s matchup, Daniels has picked up the slack as a rushing threat to pair with feature back Devin Neal.

While Neal leads the Jayhawks with 95 yards on 12 carries tonight, it’s Daniels who’s found paydirt with two scores on the ground — one of which came from 33 yards out.

It’s a good thing, too, as Daniels’ struggles as a passer have continued into this game. With less than a minute to go in the first half, Daniels airmailed a ball on the seam to a standing safety, and it led to a last-second touchdown for the Rebels, allowing them to pull within four at half, 17-13.

It’s the fourth interception of the season for Daniels, but luckily, he’s been able to do enough to this point to give his team the lead heading into the break.
