How the New York Jets Screwed Breece Hall Out of a 1,000 Yard Season

NCAA Football: West Virginia at Iowa State

The three letters NFL can stand for several different things. One would naturally think it stands for the National Football League. But the great Jerry Glanville once told an official that it stands for Not For Long after making a call he didn’t like.

Well, if you are a Jets mathematician then the Jerry Glanville version of what the NFL stands for may apply to you. I bring all this up because New York Jets running back and former Iowa State superstar Breece Hall finished the 2023 season with 994 rushing yards.

This past Sunday, the Jets wrapped up their regular season in snowy Foxborough against the Patriots. The Jets ended up winning the game 17-3 as Breece Hall finished with 178 yards and a score. I know Hall already had a ton of carries, but somebody should have known how close Breece actually was to breaking 1,000 yards.

And speaking of their mathematicians, head coach Robert Saleh said “One of our mathematicians was wrong.” Excuse me? Just how many of these geniuses do they have on their staff? I feel like this whole thing pretty much sums up the 2023 New York Jets. Luckily for the Jets, Breece Hall handled the whole situation like a pro.

To be fair, I am no mathematician myself. Math was always my worst subject when I was in school. At one point I am pretty sure my BAC was higher than my GPA. But the one thing I do know is how to add and subtract. And it seems like I can do a better job at that than the Jets’ so-called mathematicians.
