Breece Hall Endorses New Iowa State Offensive Coordinator
Iowa State legend Breece Hall was back in Ames as the Cyclones basketball team faced Kansas on Saturday. Hall spoke to the media and shared his belief in new offensive coordinator Nate Scheelhaase.
Hall was a key member of the Cyclones’ success in recent years compiling a career total of 3,951 rushing yards and a massive 56 total touchdowns in his three years on campus. And with Iowa State’s offense having its worst year under Matt Campbell last fall, the head coach fired his offensive coordinator Tom Manning.
Manning had been the offensive coordinator for six of the past seven seasons in Ames, taking a one-year stint in the NFL in 2018. The Cyclones went 4-8 this season and the offense was the reason why.
Breece Hall played under Manning, but also had some very high praise for the new offensive coordinator Nate Scheelhaase by saying, “I think he’ll be great.”
While Hall kept his comments short and sweet, he was able to interact with Scheelhaase during his time in Ames as Scheelhaases has been on staff for Iowa State football for six seasons.
Scheelhaase enters his first season as offensive coordinator for the Cyclones after being elevated to the position in December. He also worked with the wide receivers after previously serving as running game coordinator and working with the running backs, including Hall, and wide receivers.
Iowa State finished last in the Big 12 in points per game, total yards per game and rushing yards per game. And it wasn’t all that close. The Cyclones averaged 20 points per game this season, no other Big 12 team averaged less than 30 points per game.
Hall is currently recovering from a knee injury that he sustained in the middle of the season, where at the time he was considered a frontrunner for the NFL Rookie of the Year. Hall was a game-changer for the New York Jets this season averaging 5.8 YPC with 463 rushing yards and four scores on 80 total attempts. Hall added 19 grabs for 218 yards and a touchdown in his rookie season, which lasted just seven games.
