Throughout the summer, the doubters lined up in force to take shots at the Baylor defense.
They said there was no way the Bears could be as good as last season since seven senior defensive starters were gone, including All-America safety Ahmad Dixon and big-play linebacker Eddie Lackey.
But in three lopsided nonconference wins, the Baylor defense has shot back with physical, inspired and often intimidating football.
The No. 7 Bears’ schedule will get much tougher as they dive into Big 12 play Sept. 27 against Iowa State in Ames following the bye week. But the young guys who stepped into lead roles are already proving themselves.
