Former TCU HC Gary Patterson Will Not Return to Baylor as Consultant

In an interesting Friday afternoon report from SicEm365’s Colt Barber, former TCU head coach will not be a member of the Baylor coaching staff in 2024.

Patterson, a longtime head coach of the TCU Horned Frogs, joined Dave Aranda’s staff as a consultant in February but now finds himself out of a job prior to the start of the upcoming season.

“Baylor Football and Gary Patterson have jointly concluded their official partnership,” the statement reads. “Gary joined us as a senior consultant in February and has been a tremendous asset to the team, providing valuable insight and expertise. We are truly grateful for everything he has contributed and wish him all the best as he embarks on the next chapter of his storied career.”

In 21 seasons at TCU, Patterson recorded an overall head coaching record of 181-79, alongside five conference championships as a member of Conference USA, the Mountain West, and the Big 12.

While Patterson’s decisions have warranted some interesting remarks in college football circles, his experience would go a long way toward getting Baylor back on track. The Bears have had back-to-back disappointing seasons since winning the Big 12 in 2021 with a 12-2 record.

In the past two seasons, Aranda has failed to break even with records of 6-7 and 3-9. With a 6-7 record in 2022, Aranda suffered a loss in the Armed Forces Bowl against Air Force.

Baylor kicks off the 2024 season on Saturday, August 31st, against the Tarleton State Texans, without Gary Patterson on staff.
