America has several iconic brands, places, and things that are recognized worldwide. The Statue of Liberty in New York, Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, and the Gateway Arch in St. Louis are just a few that come to mind.
But the Gateway Arch isn’t the only arch that America is known for. What about the Golden Arches? It’s the place where the french fries are salty, where the Sprite is extra spicy, and where the ice cream machine is ALWAYS broken. Of course, I am talking about McDonald’s.
Over the last 65 years, no fast-food restaurant has been more popular than McDonald’s. They claim to serve over 70 million people per day across the globe, and as much as I love my Whataburger here in Texas, they don’t even come close to the numbers of the Golden Arches.
With NIL running rampant across college football, McDonald’s is throwing its hat in the ring, and on Monday, Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon announced an NIL partnership with one of the world’s biggest names.
To me, it seems like a perfect fit. The most consistent running back in college football teaming up with the most consistent fast-food restaurant in the world.
Ollie had a breakout season in 2023, rushing for 1,732 yards—which led the country—and 21 touchdowns—good for second nationally.
Gordon also averaged 6.1 yards per carry on his way to earning First-Team All-American honors. He also became the first player in Oklahoma State history to win the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s top running back.
He finished seventh in the Heisman voting last season, and he comes into the 2024 season as the nation’s top running back and is one of the faces of college football.
It’s safe to say that the time of flying under the radar is over for Ollie.
The Oklahoma State star posted on social media, sharing his go-to McDonald’s order: a McDouble, Hot ‘n Spicy McChicken, medium fries, and ranch for dipping.
“This is the perfect McDonald’s experience in one meal,” he wrote on Instagram. “I call it the OGII. I also grabbed a McFlurry since it’s heating up in Oklahoma! What’s your go-to order?”
Well, since you asked Ollie, I thought I would come up with my own meal.
I’ll take a McDouble, a Hot ‘n Spicy McChicken, and medium fries, please. And let’s go with an Orange Lavaburst Hi-C to wash it all down.
Everyone knows what to do when you have a McDouble and a Hot ‘n Spicy (if you know, you know), and the fries are a must at McDonald’s. Of course, the Orange Hi-C is a classic. The fact that it ever went away is a crime, and the person responsible for that should have been fired. As for the McFlurry, there’s a 50/50 chance you won’t get one, so I wouldn’t even bother.
Personally, I am not the biggest fan of McDonald’s. I remember back when they had an actual dollar menu (Man, those were the days). But in all seriousness, Congrats Ollie. If anyone in the Big 12 deserves this NIL deal, it is you. Now that we have shared our preferred McDonald’s order, what would be yours?
