Former Cyclone Marial Shayock Leading South Sudan Over Team USA Basketball

NCAA Basketball: Big 12 Basketball Tipoff

In an interesting Saturday storyline surrounding USA Basketball, former Iowa State Cyclone guard Marial Shayock led South Sudan to a 58-44 lead over the United States heading into the halftime break.

Shayock, a member of the Cyclones from 2018-2019, led South Sudan with 14 points, two assists, two steals, and one rebound at the half.

In 2018-19 with Iowa State, the 6-foot-6 forward posted some incredible stats. He led the team with 18.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game on 49.6% shooting from the field. He also connected on 38.6% of three-point attempts in his senior season.

His impressive collegiate stats earned Shayock a second-round draft grade, with the Philidelphia 76ers selecting the former Cyclone as the 54th pick of the 2019 NBA Draft. Despite his selection in the 2019 Draft, Shayock saw action in just four games as a rookie. However, Shayock put together some impressive numbers in the NBA’s G League over the past four seasons.

In 2022-23 with the Maine Celtics, Shayock averaged 23 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. One season later, Shayock is taking his talents to the world’s best basketball players and showing out on an international stage.
