Texas Tech Names Jeff Linder As Assistant Coach
The Texas Tech men’s basketball team has hired Jeff Linder, the former Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year, as an assistant coach.
Linder coached at Wyoming (2021-22) and Northern Colorado (2018-19) before deciding to come to Lubbock to work under Head Coach Grant McCasland.
In his four seasons with Wyoming, Linder finished with a 63-59 record and led the Cowboys to an at-large bid in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
As a result of his departure, three Cowboys entered the transfer portal in less than 24 hours after the decision was announced.
McCasland and Linder actually have some history together, coaching at Midland College back in 2006. In addition to that, Linder also has experience coaching at Boise State, Colorado, San Francisco, and Weber State.
Linder recruited Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard to Weber State, where he averaged 32.6 points per game for the Wildcats from 2008 to 2012. The Portland Trail Blazers selected Lillard with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.
In the 2021-22 season, Linder led the Cowboys to their 16th NCAA Tournament appearance, finishing with a 25-9 record. The squad was ranked as high as No. 22 in the nation.
Texas Tech is coming off a 23-11 season, placing fourth in the Big 12 with a conference record of 11-7.
The Red Raiders clinched a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament before falling to NC State in the Round of 64.
