Former Washington State Guard Joseph Yesufu Transfers To WVU

After stints at Drake, Kansas, and Washington State, point guard Joseph Yesufu committed to the West Virginia Mountaineers with one year of eligibility remaining.

Yesufu reunites with WVU Head Coach Darian Devries who coached him at Drake for his first two seasons.

In 69 career games with Kansas, he averaged 3.1 points, 0.7 assists, and 1.1 rebounds.

 

This past season with Washington State, Yesufu only appeared in six games, averaging 6.2 points in 25.3 minutes of action, and was sidelined with a hip injury for most of the 2023-24 season. However, he scored a season-high 15 points in a 76-64 loss against Mississippi State University on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023.

In his sophomore season under DeVries, Yesufu posted a career-high 12.8 points per game, to go along with 1.8 assists and 1.8 rebounds. He was second on the team in three-point shooting, knocking down 38.7% of his shots from long-range.

As the team’s second-leading scorer, Yesufu helped the Bulldogs reach the 2021 NCAA Tournament before transferring to Kansas the following season. In the Round of 64, the Bulldogs fell to the University of Southern California, but Yesufu finished with 26 points, five rebounds, and two assists.

In 69 career games with Kansas, Yesufu averaged 3.1 points, 0.7 assists, and 1.1 rebounds. He won the 2022 National Championship with the Jayhawks.
