According to a report from Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, the annual basketball matchup between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State appears to be in position to continue in 2023-24 despite the Sooners’ impending move to the SEC on July 1.
On Monday morning, Rothstein reported that Oklahoma State head basketball coach Steve Lutz tells him that while there are no contracts as of now, the annual Bedlam game is “on track” to be played at PayCom Center—home of the Oklahoma City Thunder—in OKC sometime in mid-December.
Historically, the Bedlam Rivalry on the court has been incredibly competitive, with Oklahoma holding the all-time series advantage, 143-107, and a 90-75 edge since 1950.
Since then, the average score in these games has been phenomenally close, as the Sooners average 68.9 points per game to the Cowboys’ 68.3 points per game. According to Sports-Reference.com, that gives the Sooners just a 0.6 average margin of victory.
Most recently, Oklahoma swept Oklahoma State in two meetings in 2024, with the last meeting ending with an overtime buzzer-beater from Sooners’ guard Javian McCollum. Before the 2024 season, Oklahoma State had won seven of the last eight meetings dating back to the 2019-20 season.
While the Bedlam football series looks to be on ice, the other sports—basketball and softball—appear to be moving forward with plans to continue playing one another.
