Colorado Sees Record-Breaking Number of Applications for Fall of 2024

Oct 7, 2023; Tempe, Arizona, USA; Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders walks the sidelines as his team takes on the ASU Sun Devils at Mountain America Stadium.

The Coach Prime effect is here, and it is for real.

According to admissions numbers at CU Boulder, the university reported record-breaking enrollment with 68,000 applicants which is up 20% from last fall.

According to a report from the Daily Camera’s Olivia Doak, Colorado extended offers to roughly 51,000 students, including 14,000 Colorado residents, 35,000 non-residents, and 2,600 international students.

Colorado’s Associate Vice Chancellor of Enrollment, Amy Hutton, spoke on the increase of freshmen applicants saying, “CU Boulder was excited to see so much interest from prospective first-year students throughout the application period. Our campus has seen a steady increase in applications since 2012, and the increase in applications of new students for the 2024 fall semester is consistent with that trend.”

While an increase in enrollment can usually be credited to a multitude of things, Colorado’s Assistant Vice Chancellor of Admissions, Jennifer Ziegenfus, spoke about the connection to head football coach Deion Sanders.

“No doubt the exposure that Colorado Boulder has received since Coach Prime was hired has been tremendous,” Ziegenfus said. “It obviously showcases that a number of our national media outlets are attracting applicants from all over the world, but it’s really difficult for us to draw that causational line between Coach Prime and this application increase.”

Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes kick off their first season as members of the Big 12 Conference on Saturday, August 31st, against the North Dakota State Bison.
