On Monday, representatives from Maxwell Football announced their watch list for the 2024 Maxwell Award, which included 15 different Big 12 athletes.
The Maxwell Award is a trophy given to the best player in college football, which multiple members of the Big 12 Conference are in preseason contention for.
Representatives from 11 different Big 12 programs were included, including Arizona, Baylor, Cincinnati, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, UCF, Utah, and West Virginia. The five Big 12 teams to not field a player on the watch list were Arizona State, BYU, Houston, Iowa State, and TCU.
Listed alphabetically by program, Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan headlines the list, followed by teammate Noah Fifita. Baylor’s Dequan Finn checks in next, followed by Cincinnati’s Corey Kiner, Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Kansas’ Devin Neal and Jalon Daniels, Kansas State’s DJ Giddens and Avery Johnson, Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon, Texas Tech’s Tahj Brooks, UCF’s KJ Jefferson RJ Harvey, Utah’s Cam Rising, and West Virginia’s Garrett Greene.
While the 2024 College Football season is still over one month away, the Big 12 Conference is set for one of the most exciting seasons in recent history. Should one of the 15 players listed above take home the Maxwell Award, they would become the first Big 12 athlete to earn the honor since Baker Mayfield in 2017.
