Four Big 12 Teams Listed on Josh Pate’s Preseason JP Poll

On Monday, the first edition of Josh Pate’s JP Poll was released, which featured four teams from the Big 12 Conference.

The four teams included were the Kansas State Wildcats, the Utah Utes, the Oklahoma State Cowboys, and the Iowa State Cyclones.

Chris Klieman and the Kansas State Wildcats earned the top spot on the list, checking in at No. 16. Kansas State enters the upcoming season with rising sophomore quarterback Avery Johnson under center, which has helped the team earn some national praise.

Following Kansas State on the poll was the Utah Utes, who earned the No. 17 spot despite being picked to win the Big 12 Conference in the Preseason Media Poll. Utah narrowly edged past K-State in the rankings but did not earn the nod on Pate’s poll.

After retaining nearly the entire roster from the previous season, Oklahoma State, the 2023 Big 12 runner-up, ranked No. 23 on the JP Poll. Oklahoma State was picked to finish third in the Big 12 Preseason Media Poll behind Utah and Kansas State.

In somewhat of a surprise, Matt Campbell and the Iowa State Cyclones earned the No. 25 spot in the poll, despite being picked to finish sixth in the Preseason Poll. Iowa State leapfrogged both Kansas and Arizona, who each received first-place votes.

While the JP Poll is a fun way to see the mind of an elite college football commentator, in Pate’s words, the list is not a power ranking but a power rating.

For more information on the differences, Pate’s tweet can be seen below.
