During the Cornhuskers’ Week 2 win over Colorado, the final play of the 2024 Cy-Hawk game was shown on the jumbotron inside of Memorial Stadium.
Nebraska fans filled the stadium with cheers, watching Iowa State kicker Kyle Konrardy steal the game over Iowa with a game-winning kick.
Nebraska fans supported the Clones’ major win on Saturday, which became Iowa State’s second-straight win on the road in Iowa City. Led by sophomore quarterback Rocco Becht, the Cyclones narrowly won the ball game 20-19. Becht tossed 23 completions for 272 yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 2-1.
On the opposite side of the field, Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara had a day filled with struggles. The Nevada native finished his day going 13-29 for 99 yards and two interceptions. The bulk of the Hawkeyes’ production came in the run game, with junior Kaleb Johnson posting 187 yards and two scores.
In the end, Johnson’s big day wasn’t enough as freshman kicker Kyle Konrardy became the hero for Iowa State. He drilled a beautiful 54-yard game-winner to advance his team to 2-0 with a win over their in-state rivals.
With a win over North Dakota in Week 1 and Iowa in Week 2, Matt Campbell’s Cyclones should have a good shot at advancing to conference play undefeated. The team takes on Arkansas State to close out their non-conference schedule in Week 3 as heavy favorites.
Iowa State’s Week 3 game kicks off on Saturday, September 21st, at 1:00 p.m. CT.
