Tulane is led by first-year head coach Jon Sumrall, who took over for Willie Fritz after he left for the Houston job to replace Dana Holgorsen.
Tulane, which is a combined 23-5 in the last two seasons, received two first-place votes, and was picked third in the AAC Preseason Poll, behind Memphis and UTSA. Kansas State was picked to finish second in the Big 12 Preseason Poll with 19 first-place votes, behind Utah, who received 20 first-place votes.
