Landing a five-star prospect in today’s world of recruiting is a massive feat, but doing so over a couple of rivals makes it even sweeter.
Brent Venables and Oklahoma are tasting sweet, sweet victory on Wednesday afternoon after 2025 five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi chose the Sooners over Texas and Texas A&M.
Fasusi, listed at 6-foot-6, 299 pounds, is ranked as the No. 11 player in the 2025 class and the No. 2 OT of the cycle. It wasn’t an easy battle for the Sooners to win, as they ultimately had to overcome the Longhorns and Aggies for Fasusi’s services, not to mention a slew of other suitors that included Oregon, Missouri, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, and LSU.
Oklahoma fans will relish in this victory for some time, as landing Fasusi ends the narrative that their offensive line coach, Bill Bedenbaugh, just can’t seem to land the big fish. As one of the best OL coaches in America, Bedenbaugh’s claim to fame has been incredible development and the ability to prepare his players for the NFL. Now, he can add “recruiter” to his list of impressive accolades, and on his birthday, no less.
“[Bedenbaugh] is the best,” Fasusi told OUInsider’s Brandon Drumm in June. “He cares so much about you and it shows in how hard he coaches you. [It’s] why he is so good at developing offensive linemen. And Coach Bedenbaugh’s track record speaks for itself. Look at all the OU guys that are in the NFL or All-Pro’s right now. He coaches you hard, but he cares about you more than just as a player. That’s why I called him the GOAT.”
With Fasusi’s commitment, Oklahoma has claimed up to No. 5 in the recruiting rankings for 2025, trailing only Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, and Georgia for the top-ranked class in the country.
