Four Big 12 Teams in Top 12 of Final D1Softball Top 25

The 2024 college softball season has concluded, with Oklahoma topping Texas in the WCWS Finals to win the program’s fourth consecutive national championship—the first team in Division-I history to accomplish the feat.

Either the Sooners or Longhorns held the top spot in the polls for the entire season, and when the final eight schools descended on Devon Park in Oklahoma City, they were the last two standing.

Oklahoma’s incredible senior class wrapped up their careers with a record of 235-15 (.940) and never had their seasons end in defeat. Naturally, the Sooners—who finished the year at 59-7—were the No. 1 team in D1Softball’s Final Top 25 for 2024. That wasn’t the case at the end of the regular season, though, as D1Softball had OU ranked fourth, behind the Longhorns, Tennessee, and Oklahoma State.

Meanwhile, Texas—who tied a program record with 55 wins (55-10)—was the No. 2 team in the final ranking, falling one spot from their ranking at the end of the regular season.

The Big 12 was well-represented in the final poll, taking four of the top 12 spots. Oklahoma State (49-12) checks in at No. 6 after winning its fifth consecutive Super Regional title before being eliminated in OKC. Kenny Gajewski’s squad ran into Florida (No. 3) and Stanford (No. 4) at the WCWS and wasn’t able to overcome strong performances from the Gators and Cardinal in the circle.

Baylor (36-23) comes in at No. 12 in the final rankings after finishing the regular season unranked in D1Softball’s poll. However, after advancing out of the Lafayette Regional and taking Florida to three games in Gainsville, the Bears earned their spot among the nation’s best.

Future Big 12 member Arizona checked in at No. 16 on the list after advancing out of the Fayetteville Regional. The Wildcats were eliminated by Oklahoma State in Stillwater, but finished the year with a 37-18-1 record.
