Hailey Van Lith Denies TCU Commitment, Decision Coming Soon
Last week, TCU women’s basketball fans learned that they’d landed a major commitment from LSU transfer Hailey Van Lith, one of the most recognizable players in college basketball.
Van Lith, who spent last season playing alongside Angel Reese at LSU, has a whopping 1.1 million followers on Instagram and endorsement deals with Adidas and Fanatics.
According to Talia Goodman of The Next, the Horned Frogs had secured one of the best available players in the portal, but Van Lith says that’s not the case.
In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Van Lith denied that she’s committed to anyone at this point, saying she’s taken a visit to TCU, but hasn’t made any commitment yet.
“I did take a visit to TCU and am very interested in them, but I took visits to other schools and was very interested in them, too,” she told AP. “I haven’t made an official commitment, but I’m very close. The ink has not touched the paper for any school.”
Some wondered if the loss of Haley Cavinder might’ve played a role in this turn of fortunes for the Frogs, but Van Lith said that it wouldn’t be part of her decision.
“It’s a non-factor for me,” Van Lith said. “If she had stayed and I did go to TCU, I’d have loved to play with her.”
Van Lith was one of two Power-Five Players (Caitlin Clark) to average at least 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists per game for the 2022-23 season before she transferred to LSU and changed positions.
This past season, Van Lith saw big drops in several statistical categories, including points (11.6 ppg), rebounds (2.4 rpg) and field goal percentage (37.8%).
