Oklahoma State’s Jacie Hoyt Earns Career Win No. 100 in 3OT Victory at Texas Tech

Jacie Hoyt’s Oklahoma State Cowgirls had to earn it for her, but they certainly did in the end. The Pokes pulled out a 92-80 Saturday evening victory at Texas Tech in three overtimes for Hoyt’s 100th career win.

“A game I will never forget!” Hoyt tweeted afterwards. “Our team was gutsy, resilient, and as tough as nails today. Accomplishments like this aren’t possible without hardworking players and staff who believe in the vision! I’m blessed by all the above…not to mention administrators and fans. Not done yet!”

The Cowgirls led after each of the first three quarters. That included a 47-43 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

But the Lady Raiders weren’t about to let them walk into their arena and exit victoriously with ease. In fact, Oklahoma State had to make a free throw with 36 seconds left and come up with a defensive stop on the final possession of regulation to force overtime.

Oklahoma State scored the first eight points of the first overtime to put itself in position to win right then and there. But Texas Tech responded with the final eight to extend it to another frame.

Neither team could separate in the second overtime, as they each scored seven apiece to stay locked in a 76-76 tie. That moved them to a third OT.

The Cowgirls got the separation and this time, finally, kept it for Hoyt’s monumental victory. They outscored the Lady Raiders 16-4 in the last set of extra five minutes.

In order to reach the milestone, Hoyt has compiled a 19-7 record in her initial season at the helm in Stillwater. That, combined with 81 total wins at her previous stop in Kansas City, has her at the 100-win plateau. She owns a 100-72 overall record between those two stops.
