UCF Extends Gus Malzahn Through 2027 Season: Report

NCAA Football: Villanova at Central Florida

According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, UCF and Gus Malzahn have reached an agreement to extend him through the 2027 season.

Thamel also says that Malzahn agreed to terms on the new agreement early this summer and the school has agreed to raise his salary to $4M per year starting on July 1. Then, the deal will raise to $5.5M annually in 2026 and 2027.

“The raise and extension are part of UCF’s transition plan to the Big 12, which the school calls ‘Mission XII,’” Thamel writes. “The new deal puts him more in line with the Big 12, as he would have entered UCF’s first in the Big 12 as the lowest-paid Power 5 coach without the adjustment.

During his tenure as the Knights’ head coach, Malzahn has a record of 21-11 and 1-1 in bowl games. In UCF’s first year in the Big 12, the Knights are 3-2 and are off to a 0-2 start in conference play with losses to Kansas State and Baylor.

Malzahn and the Knights will have the chance to get things turned around this week but will head to the State of Kansas for the second time this year, taking on Kansas on Saturday night.

The Jayhawks are currently favored by 2.0 points and are coming off a 40-14 loss to Texas last weekend.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT, with television coverage on FOX. Make sure to check out our preview of the game and see the key players, storylines, and prediction of the outcome.
