It was a new era for the Arizona State Sun Devils entering the Big 12 Conference, but that wasn’t enough to justify having FOX Sports 1 send its broadcast team to Tempe.
It turned out, FS1 chose to do a remote broadcast between Arizona State and Wyoming, with play-by-play man Chris Myers and color analyst Petros Papadakis calling the game from an off-site studio location.
This was highlighted by Arizona State media sources.
Needless to say, it didn’t sit well with many Arizona State fans. Especially since this happened on multiple occasions during the 2023 college football season.
Oh, and then this was awkward, when the broadcast crew almost gave it away.
While not unprecedented, networks choosing to broadcast games remotely has become more common in recent years after being most prevalent during the COVID-19 pandemic.
And the reality is this, if Arizona State keeps playing like it did during a 48-7 win over Wyoming, there will be broadcast teams flocking to Tempe in the weeks ahead.
Arizona State could very well have been the performance of the week in the Big 12. The Sun Devils were only favored by a touchdown against the Cowboys. But it was a route from start to finish in Tempe, with Kenny Dillingham getting Year 2 of his ASU tenure off to a fantastic start.
So all in all, it was a great night for the Sun Devils, who host Mississippi State next Saturday in Week 2.
