Big Sky Trolls Nebraska After Loss to Northwestern

NCAA Football: Troy at Nebraska

The Big Sky Conference decided to troll Nebraska a little bit after the Cornhuskers’ season-opening loss to Nebraska in Dublin, Ireland, on Saturday.

Northwestern won the game, 31-28, as the Wildcats rallied from an 11-point deficit twice. One play that will be second-guessed all season will be the Cornhuskers’ decision to go for an onsides kick up 11 points less than midway through the third quarter.

From there, the Wildcats rallied for the win.

That led a Twitter user with the handle @westcoastcash to hypothesize that Nebraska may be changing conferences soon.

#NebraskaFootball going to be playing in the @BigSkyConf soon — @westcoastcash

The Big Sky Conference considered the notion and decided against it.

Nah we good — @BigSkyConf

The Big Sky Conference is considered one of the best conferences in the Football Championship Subdivision, which is the division below FBS. Montana State, out of the Big Sky, reached the FCS National Championship game last season.

As Yahoo! Sports pointed out, the Cornhuskers went just 3-9 last season and were 0-8 in one-score games last season. This result only adds to that wound.

The retweet by the Big Sky Conference probably doesn’t help, either.

Nebraska head coach Scott Frost, to many, is in a make-or-break season at his alma mater, and a Big Ten loss to open the season doesn’t help his prospects of staying in Lincoln after 2022. Plus, the Cornhuskers face Oklahoma in a few weeks, as the former Big 12 and Big Eight rivals meet in Lincoln on Sept. 17.
