West Virginia Women’s Basketball Looks to Build Off Strong Season
The West Virginia women’s basketball team made serious noise last season under First-Year head coach Mark Kellogg. The squad finished the season 25-8, before losing the Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Despite the loss, WVU held Iowa to its lowest scoring half of the season at 26 points. Iowa went on to win 64-54, but this game gave the Mountaineers plenty of momentum ahead of the 2024-25 season.
WVU concluded the season at No. 24 in the final AP Top 25 Poll, as the team was led by All-Big 12 First Team guard JJ Quinerly and All-Big 12 Second Team guard Jordan Harrison.
The first team guard finished 25th in the country in points per game at 19.8, while Harrison placed 33rd in assists at 5.2.
Quinerly nearly reached a quadruple-double in a win over Delaware State on Dec. 10 when she finished with 25 points, eight rebounds, 12 assists, and seven steals.
Defense is where it all started for WVU, as the team racked up 13.6 steals per game, second-most in all of women’s college basketball. The team had four players average over two steals per game including Quinerly, Harrison, Kyah Watson, and Lauren Fields.
With Quinerly, Fields, and Watson all returning next season, the Mountaineers will be in the mix for the Big 12 Title, after finishing fourth last year.
Forwards Kylee Blacksten and Tirzah Moore will be back in uniform next season as well.
