Watch: Oklahoma State’s Terryn Milton Bounces In Game-Winner against West Virginia
The Oklahoma State Cowgirls led sparingly in a Big 12 Tournament quarterfinal contest against West Virginia, but all that matters is you lead in the end. Cowgirls guard Terryn Milton made sure that was the case, willing home a shot in the lane that bounced multiple times on the rim before falling through for a 62-61 win with 0.1 seconds left.
It capped off a huge comeback after Oklahoma State (21-10) trailed by 11 points heading into the fourth quarter. Take a look.
As all that would indicate, the Cowgirls’ day was anything but easy. Oklahoma State never seemed to get anything going consistently. The offense looked disjointed at times. The turnovers (20 of them) got under head coach Jacie Hoyt’s skin. That’s obviously way too many of them from a team that prides itself on possessing the ball. The defense, though, was there. That’s part of the reason the Cowgirls weren’t out of it.
An Oklahoma State run in the third quarter was keyed by that defense. But it faded for a bit, leading to that double-digit deficit.
In the fourth, with the Cowgirls down six, 58-52, and with less than five to play, they went to work. Guard Naomie Alnatas drove to the basket, drew contact, made two free throws to cut the lead to four. Then forward Lior Garzon drained a 3-pointer to cut it to one point. Forward Taylen Collins stole a post-entry pass but she couldn’t make it pay off on the other end.
West Virginia guard Madisen Smith made a 3-pointer to push the lead back to four with 2:02 left, but Garzon answered. With a minute left, Milton actually made a basket for the lead, but she was called for a charge and West Virginia got the ball. After Mountaineers’ guard Kyah Watson missed a mid-range jumper, Oklahoma State got the ball and Milton got her redemption.
Oklahoma State is now likely to play top-seeded Texas in the semifinals. Tip off for that is set for 12 p.m. CT Saturday.
