Big 12 Coach’s Wife Denies Alleged Tweet Ripping Own Fan Base

NCAA Football: Kansas at West Virginia

Social media was buzzing on Monday after screenshots allegedly surfaced that Kelly Leipold, wife of Kansas football coach Lance Leipold, ripped her own fan base for not filling the stadium.

Kelly Leipold went on X on Tuesday and denied this post was made from her account, calling it “not accurate”.

The alleged tweet came in response to Kirk Herbstreit raving about the home crowd in Lincoln for Nebraska’s game vs. Colorado. Herbstreit wrote on X, “This is incredible.” To which Leipold’s account appears to have responded with, “Crazy if we could only be at a place where the fans actually care to pack it.”

Once again, there are screenshots showing that tweet as since having been deleted, but Leipold is now suggesting the post was never actually made.

It’s been a rough few days for the Jayhawks who lost to Illinois 23-17 on Saturday to fall to 1-1 on the season. Kansas turns around and hosts UNLV on Friday, but the Rebels are not to be overlooked, as they rolled Houston in Week 1.

Kansas is not playing its home games at Memorial Stadium this season as it undergoes a massive renovation. KU is splitting home games at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas, which is home of the MLS’ Sporting KC, and other games at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, home of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Friday’s game vs. UNLV kicks off at 6pm CT at Children’s Mercy Park.
