Joe Lunardi’s Latest Bracketology Moves West Virginia Down to Last Four In
The West Virginia Mountaineers lost a 78-72 heartbreaker to Texas Tech Saturday morning in which the Red Raiders rallied back from an eight-point deficit to top them. The loss becomes the third straight for the Mountaineers after falling to Texas and Baylor in the past two games.
With another week of the college basketball season in the books, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has released his Bracketology update, and to make things worse for West Virginia fans, the Mountaineers have been downgraded to the last four in.
While it is a downgrade in Joe Lunardi’s recent update, the Mountaineers are still making the 2023 NCAA Tournament if that’s where they end up. The team has experienced some major ups and downs this season, and the road ahead doesn’t get much easier either. Three of West Virginia’s last four games will feature top 25 opponents in Kansas, Iowa State, and Kansas State, with its only non-ranked opponent being Monday’s game against Oklahoma State, who similarly dropped back on to the bubble.
The Mountaineers will have some opportunities for key quad one wins that would really help to improve their stock heading into the month of March. Bob Huggins’ crew has a tough task ahead, but in the event that West Virginia does earn an invitation, they would join the likes of seven other teams from the Big 12 Conference making their way into tournament play.
