Dylan Disu Most Outstanding Player of Big 12 Tournament
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Texas forward Dylan Disu was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Big 12 Tournament on Saturday by the media covering the event.
Disu helped fuel the Longhorns’ second Big 12 Tournament title in three years. Texas and Kansas may be the Big 12’s top two seeded teams when the NCAA Tournament field is announced on Sunday.
Disu scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Longhorns’ 76-56 win over Kansas to secure the title.
Disu had a double-double — 11 points and 11 rebounds — against Oklahoma State and scored 15 points with eight rebounds against TCU.
The rest of the team included Texas guards Marcus Carr and Sir’Jabari Rice, Kansas forward Jalen Wilson, Kansas guard Dajuan Harris Jr. and TCU’s Mike Miles. Harris and Miles were tied for the last spot.
Carr scored 17 points and had three assists against Kansas, which was his best game of the tournament. Rice scored 17 points and recorded double figures in scoring for the second time in three tournament games.
Wilson had an incredible tournament, despite the Jayhawks not winning the overall title. For the first two games of the tournament he averaged a double-double — 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. In Saturday’s championship game he scored 24 points and added six rebounds.
Harris had just six points and four assists in the finale but had played solid basketball throughout the tournament.
Miles helped the Horned Frogs to the semifinals of the tournament and finished with averages of 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in the two games. The Horned Frogs are expected to be an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament when the 68-team field is announced.
