Texas, K-State ‘Continue to Come Up’ in Discussion for Top Transfer PG Max Abmas
Max Abmas, the star point guard for the darling Oral Roberts squad that made a Sweet 16 run in the 2021 NCAA Men’s Tournament, has hit the portal and has plenty of suitors hoping to earn his services for the 2023 season.
While he has plenty of offers to choose from, it appears that he has whittled his choices down to two Big 12 contenders.
According to Jamie Shaw of On3 Sports, Texas and Kansas State “continue to come up” as the potential landing spots for Abmas. Both the Longhorns and Wildcats are coming off of Elite Eight runs in the 2023 Tournament and are looking to reload for another shot next season.
Getting Abmas on campus is priority 1A and 1B for both of these staffs, as a point guard of Abmas’ pedigree doesn’t hit the portal often.
Abmas is the NCAA’s active total points leader and was the top overall scorer in college basketball in 2020-21. Over the span of his career, Abmas has averaged nearly 21 points per game, and has averaged 23 points per game over the last three seasons.
With Abmas running point, the ORU Golden Eagles were 30-5 in 2022-23, and went a perfect 18-0 in conference play. The Golden Eagles made the NCAA Tournament this season as a No. 12 seed but were eliminated by Duke in the Round of 64.
Wherever Abmas ends up, he will immediately elevate his new team’s offensive production, and it sure sounds like he will be giving Big 12 defenses fits during his final season in college basketball.
