BYU Center Aly Khalifa Enters Transfer Portal
With BYU head coach Mark Pope accepting the job as Kentucky’s new head coach, the Cougars roster is already seeing losses.
Junior center Aly Khalifa became the second player to hit the portal, joining sophomore guard Dallin Hall.
Khalifa is expected to follow Mark Pope to Kentucky, as the Egyptian native entered the portal with a do-not-contact tag. The junior big man was a solid piece of the Cougars’ offense in 2023-24, averaging 5.7 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game in his third season of college basketball.
Coming out of high school in the Class of 2020, Khalifa was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index. He also checked in as the 60th-ranked player at his position and the top-ranked player in Australia (NBA Global Academy).
With two key members of the team electing to transfer in search of greener pastures, BYU’s new coach will head to Provo with multiple new spots to fill this offseason. Still, with this offseason shaping up to include one of the busiest portal cycles in college basketball history, they should have some options available for replacement.
