Colorado Transfer Alton McCaskill Walks Back Father’s Now-Deleted Social Media Post
Ahead of the 2023 season, Houston saw star running back Alton McCaskill enter the transfer portal and head to Boulder, Colorado, where he’d join a bevy of incoming skill talent for Deion Sanders and Colorado.
McCaskill was a big get for the Buffaloes too, as he was a year removed from earning 2021 AAC Rookie of the Year after rushing for 961 yards and 18 total touchdowns as a freshman. An ACL injury suffered in the spring of 2022 forced him to miss an entire season, but 2023 was supposed to be his chance to get back on the field and show what he could do.
That chance never really came to fruition though, as McCaskill saw very limited playing time and ended the year with just 14 carries for 59 yards.
As a result, McCaskill reentered the transfer portal on Wednesday night toi see if a better opportunity awaits him somewhere else.
However, it wasn’t his portal entry that made headlines for McCaskill, but his father’s explanation for why his son decided to leave. In a since-deleted post, the elder McCaskill said that “favoritism” played a factor in his son’s decision to transfer.
“If my sons not RB1 We Gotta Go…. He was ready last year! He’s a 100% this year! Unfortunately have to find another home where there’s no favoritism and he is valued, appreciated and has no doubts about RB1… He is the best RB in Colorado…But He Not settling! We Going! Thank you Colorado for your hospitality! #McCaskillStrong #WeGoing #RB1 #Proven”
The transfer running back, who is now looking for a home, was quick to walk back his father’s post and distance himself from what was said.
“The only person that has any input or any influence with my decisions is me,” the younger McCaskill said. “My apologies some opinions were voiced that may leave people appalled . Please do not let that be a reflection of my character and the integrity of my career.”
McCaskill will have two years of eligibility remaining wherever he lands, but one has to wonder if his father’s post will turn any programs off to the idea of adding the talented young running back.
